PERICULUM FRANCISCI

"Francis’ adventure"

„Periculum Francisci“ (like „Sudatorium Veneris“) is an erotic tale characterized by vividness and particularization. The author (Diogenes Anaedoeus) writes a simple, easy-flowing Latin, following to a large extent the rules of classical grammar, but in his vocabulary he is greatly indebted to Plautus, Petronius, Martialis, Apuleius and to the „Aloisia Sigea“ of Nicolas Chorier.  By frequent variation of expressions, humorous neologisms, classical allusions and alienation effects again and again he manages to cover up the simplicity of the plot usual in this kind of stories.

Who wants to activate his Latin and read a relaxing and amusing story without lofty rhetorical or philosophical thoughts – this one gets his money’s worth by „Sudatorium Veneris“ and „Periculum Francisci“.

A detailed glossary with numerous references and instances from ancient and neolatin literature provides for the necessary philological substantiation.
